The 10th season of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) will get underway on October 27 with a clash between last season's finalists Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat, Cricket Australia confirmed. A triple-header opening day, starting exactly a week after the T20 World Cup final in Bangladesh, will see a second game at the Adelaide Oval between Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Sixers while Perth Scorchers will take on the Melbourne Stars at the WACA Stadium.

The schedule release confirms Cricket Australia's earlier decision to condense this season to a 40-game regular season - similar to the BBL - followed by three post-season games which includes the final on December 1. Each team will play 10 regular season matches rather than 14, with each club playing three others twice thereby shaving off one week from the tournament's span. The team that finishes on top of the table at the end of the regular season will still host the final while the sides finishing third and fourth will meet in The Knockout on November 27 - to be hosted by the third-ranked side. The winner of that game will then travel to play the second-ranked qualifier in The Challenger on November 29 for a spot in the final.

"By optimising the season to 43 games, we will deliver fans more marquee matches in big stadiums, an improved broadcast footprint and a more even spread of matches throughout the competition," CA's Head of Big Bash League Alistair Dobson said in a statement. "Additionally, the launch of our WBBL|10 icon solidifies this season's status as a historic milestone for both our competition and the women's game globally."

A consequence of the shorter tournament as well as Cricket Australia's 'Stadium Series' that'll run between November 9 to 16, more WBBL games will be played at prime time and in the country's biggest stadiums including The Gabba in Brisbane, which will host a WBBL game for the first time in six years.

The Sydney Cricket Ground will host a Sydney Smash as part of a double header on November 10, while a Melbourne derby will be one of two games hosted at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on November 15.
